Two Republican Representatives Introduce a Bill to Give Taxpayers Control of Their Money.
The "Spend It At Home Act" would give taxpayers the ability to choose where their tax money would be spent, either domestically of internationally.
Representative Troy Nehls (R-TX) has just introduced a bill to keep tax payer money from going to foreign aid and I am all for it. The bill will also give tax payers more control over their tax dollars.
Titled the “Spend It At Home Act,” the legislation would require the Department of the Treasury to allow taxpayers to indicate whether they would like their taxes to be used for domestic or international purposed on federal income tax forms. This would give many such as myself the power to dictate how we spend our tax money and prevent it from going to foreign wars and nations.
Representative Barry Moore (R-AL) co-sponsored the legislation.
Moore said in a statement:
“Nearly half of American taxpayers have said the federal government is sending too much money to Ukraine, but President Biden and the uniparty just defied them and sent another $61 billion anyway. This legislation gives taxpayers a chance to make their voices heard on where their hard-earned money is being spent.”
Nehls told the Daily Mail:
“I’ve heard time and time again from my constituents that they are sick and tired of paying taxes to secure Ukraine’s borders as millions of aliens are flooding across our own. Requiring two boxes on the federal income tax form asking Americans whether they would want their hard-earned dollars spent at home or abroad is a simple solution to show [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer and others waiving Ukrainian flags on the House floor that we are not doing the will of the American people.”
“I always put America First, and I hope the data produced by this legislation will encourage my colleagues to do the same.”
The introduction of this bill follows the passage of the $95 billion supplemental funding package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, while leaving out any direct funding for our southern border, which has seen over 9.2 million illegal aliens cross since President Joe Biden took office.
The offset to implement this program rescinds unobligated funds from the Inflation Reduction Act, which could be used to hire 87,000 new IRS agents.
Many Republicans fought House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) push for the legislation to give the money to foreign nations, and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R- GA) was pissed off enough to call for his removal (which unfortunately failed).
A common argument for Republicans unwilling to pass the aid legislation was that the money should be spent here in the U.S. (perhaps in East Palestine, Ohio or Hawaii). About half of federal income tax last year was from individual taxpayers, around $2.2 trillion.
Although Republicans have a majority in the House, they do not have one in the Senate where the bill will unfortunately most likely be shot down.
If it passes canonize these men, and bloody have every other nation observe them, take notes and try to outdo them.
I'm not, I'm arguing for control over my tax money.
